The Ministry of Health approved the new guidelines on the organization and functioning of mental health services and the network for their categorization, in addition to the requirements for accreditation of management staff and the conditions for the modality of telemedicine, announced officially.
By resolution 1178/2022, published this Wednesday in Official bulletinthese guidelines and requirements for mental health services are included in National program for quality assurance of medical care.
These new measures are aimed at “providing recommendations to guide the preparation and adaptation of standards for jurisdictional authorizations in public, private and social security institutions for mental health and addiction,” the health portfolio said in a statement.
In addition, “it is recorded in a context of global and profound transformation of the mental health care modelwhich requires the implementation of actions that go beyond adequacy from neuropsychiatric institutions under national law 26,657 ”.
This norm, sanctioned at the end of 2010. prohibits the creation of new shelters, neuropsychiatric or public or private monovalent internment institutions, and notes that existing ones must be adapted to the objectives and principles set until they are finally replaced by alternative devices.
Decree 603/13, which regulates the law, sets the deadline for final replacement in 2020, according to Panamanian Consensus adopted by Regional Conference on Mental Health convened by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
